Perhaps you have always been someone who coped well with life's demands, and now you find yourself struggling with symptoms that feel completely beyond your control.

What Is Menopause?
Menopause marks the point at which a woman's menstrual periods stop permanently, typically occurring between the ages of 45 and 55, though it can happen earlier or later. It is defined as having occurred once you have gone 12 consecutive months without a period. The years leading up to this point are known as perimenopause, during which hormone levels — particularly oestrogen and progesterone — begin to fluctuate significantly.

These hormonal changes are responsible for the wide range of symptoms that many women experience. Oestrogen plays a role in regulating body temperature, mood, sleep, cognitive function and much more, so when levels begin to drop and fluctuate, the effects can be felt throughout the body and mind.
Perimenopause can begin several years before menopause itself, and symptoms can continue well into post-menopause. For some women, symptoms are mild and manageable. For others, they can be severe enough to affect work, relationships, sleep and overall quality of life.
It is worth noting that menopause is not an illness — it is a biological process. However, the symptoms it produces are very real, and seeking support to manage them is not a sign of weakness. It is a sensible and proactive step towards maintaining your wellbeing during a significant life transition.
What many women do not realise is that the mind plays a powerful role in how the body experiences and responds to hormonal changes. This is precisely where hypnotherapy can make a meaningful difference, by working with the subconscious mind to help regulate the body's responses and reduce the intensity of symptoms.
Why Choose Karen Ashley?
I do not just treat symptoms — I work with you to understand and address the root cause of what you are experiencing. My background includes a qualification in Counselling alongside my clinical hypnotherapy training, which means I bring a deeper understanding of the emotional and psychological factors that contribute to health conditions. This integrated perspective shapes everything I do.
My approach combines four powerful therapeutic techniques — Hypnotherapy, EFT, NLP and CBT — so that we can address your condition from multiple angles. This means working with your subconscious mind, releasing stored emotional patterns, reframing unhelpful thinking, and giving you practical tools you can use between sessions and long after treatment ends.
I have been practising since 1994, giving me over 30 years of clinical experience. I hold a BA Hons degree along with professional qualifications including Dip CAH, MasterNLP, PEFT and CI, and I am a Certified Trainer in both Hypnotherapy and EFT. Why Hypnotherapy Works for Menopausal Symptoms
Anxiety lives in your subconscious mind. Your conscious mind may know there's nothing to fear, but your body still responds as if there is. That's why willpower alone rarely works.
Hypnotherapy works directly with your subconscious to change those automatic responses. I combine it with EFT and NLP for faster, deeper results:
- Understand the root causes of your menopausal symptoms
- Retrain your subconscious responses
- Learn EFT tapping and self-hypnosis for daily use
- Build lasting confidence and resilience
“I went to see Karen as I was paralysed with anxiety, depression and I seemed to have got stuck in the grieving process. This lady has so much empathy and knowledge.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind to influence the body's temperature regulation. Many women experience a noticeable reduction in both the frequency and intensity of hot flushes. The approach is particularly effective because hot flushes involve the hypothalamus, which is responsive to subconscious suggestion and relaxation techniques.
Most clients find that three to six sessions are sufficient to achieve significant improvement in their symptoms. However, this depends on the number and severity of symptoms you are experiencing. During your initial consultation, I will give you an honest assessment of what I think will be most helpful for your individual situation.
Not at all. Hypnosis is a natural state of focused relaxation — similar to being deeply absorbed in a book or a daydream. You remain fully aware throughout the session and cannot be made to do anything against your will. You are always in control.
Absolutely. Hypnotherapy works beautifully alongside HRT and any other treatments you may be using. It is a complementary approach, not an alternative to medical treatment. If you are taking HRT, hypnotherapy can help address symptoms that HRT may not fully resolve, such as anxiety, sleep issues and confidence.
Yes. Whether your menopause has occurred naturally, as a result of surgery, or due to medical treatment, hypnotherapy can help you manage the symptoms. Early menopause can be particularly challenging emotionally as well as physically, and the combined approach of Hypnotherapy, EFT and NLP is well suited to addressing both aspects.
