Hypnotherapy for Weight Loss in Wilmslow
You have tried the diets. Perhaps all of them. The calorie counting, the meal plans, the shakes, the points, the food groups you were told to cut out entirely. Some of them worked — for a while. You lost weight, felt great, and then slowly, inevitably, the weight crept back on. And each time it came back, it brought a little more disappointment, a little more self-criticism, and a growing belief that there is something fundamentally wrong with your ability to control what you eat.
What clients say
“I had a terrible fear of flying and after just two sessions with Karen I was able to fly abroad on holiday feeling calm and relaxed. I would highly recommend Karen to anyone…”
Are You Experiencing These Symptoms?
Weight Loss affects people in different ways. If you recognise any of these, hypnotherapy could help.
Eat Physically Hungry
You eat when you are not physically hungry — stress, boredom, loneliness or other emotions trigger eating
You eat for comfort
food is your go-to response when you feel upset, anxious or overwhelmed
Lost Weight Diets
You have lost weight on diets but always regain it — the yo-yo pattern
You eat mindlessly
consuming food without really tasting or enjoying it, often while distracted
Feel Out Control
You feel out of control around certain foods — unable to stop once you start
You eat in secret
hiding food or eating when nobody is watching
What Drives Weight Gain?
Understanding why you eat is the key to changing how you eat. While there are medical conditions that can affect weight, for the majority of people who struggle with weight management, the primary drivers are psychological and emotional.
Emotional Eating
This is the pattern that underlies most weight problems. You eat not because your body needs fuel but because you are trying to manage an emotion — stress, loneliness, boredom, sadness, anxiety, frustration, even happiness. Food becomes a coping mechanism, a source of comfort, a way to fill a void that has nothing to do with physical hunger. The subconscious mind has learned to associate certain emotional states with eating, and that association becomes automatic — you reach for food before you have even consciously registered what you are feeling.
Habitual Eating
Eating at certain times, in certain places, or while doing certain activities — regardless of hunger. The afternoon biscuit with your cup of tea. The snacking in front of the television. The clearing of your plate because you were taught not to waste food. These habits are deeply embedded in the subconscious and operate on autopilot.
Comfort and Reward
Many people learned in childhood that food equals comfort and reward. A sweet when you were good. A treat to cheer you up. Ice cream after a hard day. These early associations become powerful subconscious programmes that continue to run in adulthood, driving you towards food whenever you need soothing or feel you deserve a reward.
Stress and Cortisol
Chronic stress keeps cortisol levels elevated, which directly promotes fat storage — particularly around the abdomen — and increases cravings for high-calorie, high-sugar foods. This is a biological response that willpower alone cannot override.
Self-Image and Identity
How you see yourself at a subconscious level profoundly affects your behaviour. If your subconscious identity includes being "someone who struggles with weight" or "someone who cannot resist food," these beliefs become self-fulfilling. Your behaviour aligns with your identity without you even realising it.
Why Choose Karen Ashley?
I do not just treat symptoms — I work with you to understand and address the root cause of what you are experiencing. My background includes a qualification in Counselling alongside my clinical hypnotherapy training, which means I bring a deeper understanding of the emotional and psychological factors that contribute to health conditions. This integrated perspective shapes everything I do.
My approach combines four powerful therapeutic techniques — Hypnotherapy, EFT, NLP and CBT — so that we can address your condition from multiple angles. This means working with your subconscious mind, releasing stored emotional patterns, reframing unhelpful thinking, and giving you practical tools you can use between sessions and long after treatment ends.
I have been practising since 1994, giving me over 30 years of clinical experience. I hold a BA Hons degree along with professional qualifications including Dip CAH, MasterNLP, PEFT and CI, and I am a Certified Trainer in both Hypnotherapy and EFT. I am registered with the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) and the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), ensuring the highest professional standards.
My practice is located at 40 Nursery Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5JQ, offering a calm, private and welcoming environment.
How Hypnotherapy Can Help You Lose Weight
My advanced hypnotherapy programme addresses weight loss at the subconscious level — where the real drivers of overeating live. By combining Hypnotherapy, EFT and NLP, I help you change your relationship with food from the inside out.
Breaking Emotional Eating Patterns
Through hypnotherapy, I work with your subconscious mind to break the automatic link between your emotions and eating. We identify the emotional triggers that drive your eating and create new, healthier responses. Instead of reaching for food when you feel stressed, bored or upset, your subconscious learns to direct you towards responses that actually address the underlying emotion — because no amount of food is going to change the way you feel.
- Understand the root causes of your weight loss
- Retrain your subconscious responses
- Learn EFT tapping and self-hypnosis for daily use
- Build lasting confidence and resilience

Frequently Asked Questions
Diets tell you what to eat. Hypnotherapy changes why you eat. By addressing the subconscious emotional patterns that drive overeating, hypnotherapy creates lasting change that diets simply cannot achieve. You will not be given a meal plan or told to cut out food groups. Instead, you will develop a naturally healthier relationship with food that feels effortless rather than forced.
For smaller weight loss goals, two to three sessions are often sufficient. For larger goals, I recommend a longer programme with monthly sessions that provide ongoing support as you work towards your target weight. During your initial consultation, I will recommend the approach that is most appropriate for your situation.
No. One of the great advantages of the hypnotherapy approach is that it does not rely on restriction or deprivation. Instead of fighting cravings with willpower, the cravings themselves diminish as we address the emotional drivers behind them. Many clients are surprised to find that they simply lose interest in the foods they previously could not resist.
Yes. Binge eating is almost always driven by emotional factors, making it highly responsive to hypnotherapy. By addressing the emotions and subconscious patterns that trigger bingeing, we can break the cycle. EFT is particularly effective for the intense emotional states that precede a binge.
Hypnotherapy can be used alongside medical treatment for conditions that affect weight. It addresses the behavioural and emotional aspects of eating, which play a role regardless of any underlying medical factors. Always continue to follow your doctor's advice regarding medical treatment.
The changes made through hypnotherapy are designed to be permanent because they operate at the subconscious level. Unlike a diet, which you eventually stop following, the new relationship with food becomes part of who you are. The self-hypnosis and EFT techniques you learn provide ongoing support for maintaining your results.
Yes, I offer both in-person and online sessions. Online weight loss programmes are fully effective, as the work is with the mind and its patterns, not with the physical body.
