Hypnotherapy for Fear of Hospitals in Wilmslow
Clinical name: Nosocomephobia
For most people, a hospital visit is not something they look forward to, but for someone with a genuine fear of hospitals, it goes far beyond simple discomfort. The thought of entering a hospital — whether for your own appointment, to visit a loved one, or even just to walk through the doors — can trigger intense panic that feels completely overwhelming.
What clients say
“I had a terrible fear of flying and after just two sessions with Karen I was able to fly abroad on holiday feeling calm and relaxed. I would highly recommend Karen to anyone…”

What Is Nosocomephobia?
Nosocomephobia is the clinical term for an intense, irrational fear of hospitals. It goes well beyond the normal apprehension that many people feel about medical environments and involves a persistent, excessive anxiety that significantly interferes with a person's ability to seek medical care or visit others in hospital settings.

The fear can attach to many different aspects of the hospital experience. For some people, it is the clinical environment itself — the bright lights, the sterile corridors, the unfamiliar equipment. For others, it is the association with illness, suffering, or death that triggers the strongest response. The loss of control that comes with being a patient, the vulnerability of medical examinations, or the fear of receiving bad news can all play a role.
It is important to understand that this fear is a learned response. We are not born with an inherent fear of hospitals. Your subconscious mind has, at some point, created an association between hospitals and danger or distress. This might stem from a frightening childhood experience in a hospital, from witnessing a family member's illness or distress in a medical setting, or from absorbing fearful messages about hospitals from others. Sometimes the phobia develops without a single identifiable cause.
The important thing to grasp is that because this response was learned by your subconscious mind, it can be changed. Through hypnotherapy, we can help your mind form new, calm associations with hospital environments.
Why Choose Karen Ashley?
I know exactly what it feels like to live with a phobia that others might not understand. My own fear of caterpillars was very debilitating — it caused panic attacks, fainting, hyperventilation, crying and recurring nightmares. I overcame it using EFT and hypnosis, the same techniques I now use with my clients. That personal experience means I truly understand what you are going through, and I know that freedom from your fear is absolutely possible.
My approach is gentle, with no exposure therapy whatsoever. I combine Hypnotherapy, EFT and NLP to work with your subconscious mind rather than forcing you to confront your fear. This means you stay comfortable and in control throughout, while we address the root cause of your phobia at the level where it actually lives.
I have been treating phobias since 1994 — over 30 years of clinical experience. My qualifications include BA Hons, Dip CAH, MasterNLP, PEFT and CI, and I am a Certified Trainer in both Hypnotherapy and EFT. I am registered with the NCH, NGH and GHR.

I do not use exposure therapy. You will not be asked to visit a hospital or confront your fear in any way that causes distress. All of the work takes place in the safe, comfortable environment of my practice in Wilmslow.
